The Fondazione Forma Meravigli hosts the exhibition “Vivian Maier, Una fotografa Ritrovata”.

The Fondazione Forma Meravigli hosts the exhibition “Vivian Maier, Una fotografa Ritrovata”.  The photographical phenomenon that has conquered the world, arrives for the first time in Milan.

The exhibition collects 120 black and white photographs taken in the 50’s and 60’s with a selection of images in colour taken at the 70’s, as well as some films in super 8 that show how Vivian Maier approached her subjects.

The photos of Vivian Maier were neither exposed nor published while she was alive, most of her film rolls had not even been developed. The artist seemed to be taking photographs just for herself.

Like Marvin Heifermann says at the introduction of the catalogue, “Even if they were taken decades ago, Vivian Maier’s photos have a lot to say about our present. And in a deep and unexpected way… Maier dedicated her body and soul to photography, she practiced it with discipline and used this language to bring structure and meaning in her life preserving, at the same time, her photographs without talking, sharing or using them to communicate with the others. Just like Maier, today we don’t only explore our relationship with the images but, through photography, we define ourselves”.

The book Vivian Maier. Una fotografa ritrovata edited by Contrasto accompanies the exhibition.
